The Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra is thrilled to be launching our new album Dream Messenger at Jianghu Bar on November 15. Recorded in January 2018, the album captures improvisational snapshots of our best original compositions, tunes that have evolved out of our many years of performing together in Beijing.  Happy, playful tunes, smirking and grinning; quiet, introspective melodies; hypnotic funk riffs, topped off with a healthy dose of unscripted, unpredictable twists and turns. We’ll be performing some of these compositions, and much more, at Jianghu on Thursday. Come join us!

阿Q爵士乐团很高兴于11月15日在江湖酒吧 举行新专辑《梦想信使》的首发演出。 一月份录制的专辑捕捉了好些妙不可言的即兴表演，全部来自多年在北京演出所积累的经典原创曲目。开心、逗乐、傻笑的曲子，安静、内向的旋律，迷人的放克律动，再加上许多意料之外想不到的音乐曲折。周四晚上在江湖的表演将包括这些曲子，还有很多精彩的阿Q原创爵士乐。欢迎来捧场。

Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra

Named after the main character in a Lu Xun novel, the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra has stubbornly found its own niche in the Beijing jazz scene for more than a decade, bringing together an eclectic mix of musicians, styles, and original jazz compositions.

Playful, creative, adventurous, the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra uses the rich language of jazz to explore the rhythms, melodies, harmonies and emotions of our world.

Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra members include:

十多年以来，阿Q爵士乐团在北京爵士界像鲁迅小说里的同名角色一样，近乎固执地坚持打造自己独特的声音，把各路乐手、不同风格、以及原创曲目荟萃一堂，充满张力。 

怀着爱玩、独创、探险的精神，阿Q爵士乐团通过爵士乐这个极其丰富的语言探索我们所在世界的旋律、和声、节奏和情感 。

刘晓光 － 萨克斯管、长笛

阿Q爵士乐团的萨克斯管手刘晓光是当今中国爵士乐圈子里*的乐手之一。他于1979年出生在内蒙，从小热爱音乐，*初弹古典吉他，后来于1993年考入内蒙古艺术学校学习萨克斯管。晓光1999年来到北京发展，学习并演奏爵士乐。2001年参加腾格尔的“苍狼”乐队（键盘手），后参加一些爵士乐队，包括钢琴演奏家夏佳的《北京城市爵士大乐队》。

除了阿Q爵士乐团之外，晓光与很多音乐家保持合作。曾参加过的乐队有：顾忠山《红节奏放克乐队》、贾轶男《摩登泡泡乐队》、Christophe Lier的 《新葡萄糖乐队》、 《坏孩子电子爵士乐队》、《HAYA》乐队、还有小娟&山谷里的居民（口琴、长笛）。 合作过的歌手和艺人有：林一峰，叶佳修，老狼，孙萌，羽泉，陈楚生，尚文婕，江健民，左小诅咒。 

Liu Xiaoguang - Saxophone, Flute

Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra saxophonist Liu Xiaoguang, also known as Kenny, is one of the hottest players on the China jazz scene. Born in Inner Mongolia in 1979, Xiaoguang started playing classical guitar as a child, later switching to saxophone at the age of 15 when admitted to the Inner Mongolia School of the Arts. He started learning jazz a few years later, moving to Beijing in 1999. He joined the Canglang band led by Mongolian singer Teng Ge Er (playing keyboard) in 2001, then in 2002 joined the Beijing City Big Band, led by jazz pianist Xia Jia.

In addition to fronting the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra, Xiaoguang has played with a number of leading musical ensembles, including the Red Groove Funk Band led by guitarist Lawrence Ku, Modern Pop led by Jia Yinan, pianist Christophe Lier’s New Glucose Octet, the Bad Boys Electronic Jazz Unit, Haya, and Chinese folk band Xiao Juan and the Residents from the Valley (on flute and harmonica). Xiaoguang has also worked with a number of musicians, including Lin Yifeng, Ye Jiaxiu, Lao Lang, Sun Meng, Yu Quan, Chen Chusheng, Shang Wenjie, Jiang Jianmin and Zuoxiao Zuzhou.

大中 － 贝斯

贝斯手大中参加过的乐队和组合有：阿Q爵士乐团、Moreno爵士三重奏、夏佳电子三重奏、北京城市大乐队、杨明爵士小组、梁颖爵士四重奏。

多年来在北京的许多酒吧、剧院演出，多次参加音乐节、国内外音乐家的交流活动，同时在现代音乐学院爵士系任教至今。

Da Zhong – Bass

Bassist Da Zhong has been a member of a number of jazz ensembles, including: Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra, Moreno Jazz Trio, Xia Jia Electric Trio, Beijing City Big Band, Yang Ming Jazz Ensemble, and Liang Ying Jazz Quartet.

Da Zhong has performed over the years in Beijing’s clubs and theatres, participated in many jazz festivals and exchanges with domestic and international musicians. He also teaches at the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy.

饶猛志 － 长号

阿Q爵士乐团长号手饶猛志是一位多年在北京的爵士乐、放克音乐的长号手。大学期间他偶然与大名鼎鼎的 Sun Ra乐队一块儿演出，很受启发，世界观由此而发生了彻底的改变。饶猛志早在1990年*钻入中国的爵士圈子里， 是阿Q爵士乐团的创始人之一。

Matt Roberts – Trombone

Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra trombonist Matt Roberts, who hails from the Philadelphia area, first came to China in 1987 and has been playing jazz in China since 1990.  Inspired by life-changing performances during his college years with the legendary Sun Ra, Roberts has performed with a number of jazz and funk outfits in Beijing in Shanghai over the last twenty-some years. Roberts is one of the founding members of the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra.

莫大伟 － 键盘

阿Q爵士乐团的键盘手莫大伟同时也是爵士乐作曲家，他为阿Q乐团带来富有感染力的幽默感。大伟的原创曲目非常多，包括美妙的“静”、“One at Three”和“水池”。除了钢琴以外，大伟也吹小号、弹吉他。

David Moser – Keyboards

Jazz educator, composer and performer David Moser graces the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra with his light touch and contagious sense of humor.  David has contributed many beautiful compositions to the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra repertoire, including Quiet, One at Three, and Pool. David also plays trumpet and guitar.

司马恺 － 鼓

阿Q爵士乐团鼓手司马恺（Scott Silverman)，来自美国。四岁开始学习爵士鼓，12岁登台演出。90年代中期来到上海，司马恺是上海*支现代爵士乐队Five Guys on a Train的创始成员之一，现在长居北京，经常与北京*爵士乐手同台。

Scott Silverman – Drums

Hailing from the U.S., Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra’s drummer Scott Silverman started playing drums when he was four years old and has played professionally since age 12.  After moving to China in the mid-1990s, Scott was a founding member of Five Guys on a Train, one of Shanghai's first modern jazz bands.  Now based in Beijing, Scott performs regularly with many of the city's top jazz musi
