TERUMASA HINO (爵士小号手)

Terumasa Hino于1942年10月25日在东京出生。他四岁*学会了踢踏舞,九岁*在父亲——一位专业的踢踏舞手和小号手——的引导下学习小号演奏。十三岁时,他跟随一个舞蹈团在美军军营开启了职业生涯。

 

在1964年,他加入Hideo Shiraki五重奏,参与了柏林爵士音乐节并赢得不少掌声。

 

在1967年,他发行了《Alone Alone and Alone》,作为乐团领队的首张专辑。

 

在1968年,他与Masabumi Kikuchi一道成立了Hino-Kikuchi五重奏并录制了一张专辑。

在1969年,他发行了《Hi-Nology》并引起了媒体的关注,产生了“Hino-Teru Boom”现象。

 

在1972年,他在纽波特爵士音乐节(Newport Jazz Festival)上表演。

 

在1975年,他搬去了纽约,向Jackie McLean、Gil Evans、Horace Silver和Larry Coryell等人学习及吸取经验。

 

他发行了一系列专辑,《City Connection》(1979)和《Double Rainbow》(1981)。 1982年的专辑《Pyramid》发行后,他进行了一场全国巡演,包括一场在武道馆的演出。

进入九十年代,Hino在“让亚洲团结起来”的初衷下组建了“Terumasa Hino & ASIAN JAZZ ALLSTARS”乐团,全部由他在亚洲发现的音乐人组成。同时,在1995年,Hino-Kikuchi五重奏发行了《Acoustic Boogie》,并赢得了日本爵士碟奖金奖(Golden Prize of the Japan Jazz Disc Awards)。之后五重奏乐团在Mt. Fuji Jazz Festiva和Blue Note俱乐部巡演。

 

在1997年,他在台北“第十六届年度国际艺术节(The 16th Annual International Arts Festival)”和悉尼“日澳友好100年庆典音乐会(Japan-Australia Friendship 100th Anniversary Concert)”演出。

 

在2000年,Hino在Osaka Junior College of Music担任客座教授。

 

在2001年,Hino在印度和巴基斯坦表演,同时参与了一系列慈善音乐会,比如为西印度地震遇难者募捐音乐会和为柬埔寨儿童募捐的音乐会。同年,他发行了《D.N.A.》并与他的乐团成员一起巡演,包括Roland Hanna, Ron Carter, and Jack DeJohnette。D.N.A.随后荣获“Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts” (Popular Entertainment category)。

TERUMASA HINO (Jazz Trumpet Player)

 

Terumasa Hino was born in Tokyo on October 25, 1942.  He began tap dancing at age four and took up the trumpet at age nine under the guidance of his father, who was a professional tap dancer and trumpeter.  By age 13, he made his professional debut in a dance band at a US Army camp. 

In 1964, he joined the Hideo Shiraki Quintet and participated in Berlin Jazz Festival where he was greeted by applause. 

In 1967, he released Alone Alone and Alone, his first album as a bandleader.

In 1968, he formed the Hino-Kikuchi Quintet with Masabumi Kikuchi and recorded an album.  

In 1969, he released Hi-Nology that caught tremendous attention from the media that created the so-called “Hino-Teru Boom”.

In 1972, he performed at the Newport Jazz Festival.  

In 1975, he relocated to and settled down in New York where he gained further experience with Jackie McLean, Gil Evans, Horace Silver, and Larry Coryell to name a few.

He released a string of smash hit albums such as City Connection in 1979 and Double Rainbow in 1981.  His 1982 album Pyramid was followed by a nationwide tour including the Budokan date. 

In 1984, he performed at the Los Angeles Olympic Art Festival.

In 1989, Hino became the first Japanese artist to sign with the prestigious Blue Note Records.  His first album from the label entitled Blue Struck became an amazing success not only in Japan but also in the US.

After the turn of the decade, Hino formed “Terumasa Hino & ASIAN JAZZ ALLSTARS” which was born from his wish to “bring Asia together as one” and made of musicians he discovered while traveling all over Asia.  The band went on a in North America and Asia between 1995 and 1996.  Meanwhile, in 1995, the Hino-Kikuchi Quintet released Acoustic Boogie, which won the Golden Prize of the Japan Jazz Disc Awards.  The quintet performed at Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival and toured Blue Note clubs. 

In 1997, he performed at “The 16th Annual International Arts Festival” in Taipei and “Japan-Australia Friendship 100th Anniversary Concert” in Sydney.

In 2000, Hino was appointed Visiting Professor at Osaka Junior College of Music.  

In 2001, Hino performed in India and Pakistan, as well as performing in a string of charity concerts such as in aid of earthquake victims in western India and in support of children in Cambodia.  He also released album D.N.A. the same year and went on a tour with his recording band members, namely Roland Hanna, Ron Carter, and Jack DeJohnette.  The D.N.A. project later received the “Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts” (Popular Entertainment category). 

In 2004, Hino received “The Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon”.  The same year he also created a movie soundtrack for the first time in 20 years for the movie Toukou No Ki.  The soundtrack won the Excellency Prize of the National Arts Festival (Album category) and the Music Prize of Mainichi Movie Awards. 

In 2007, he released Countercurrent as Hino-Kikuchi Quintet and a duo album named Edges, both with his old ally pianist Masabumi Kikuchi. The latter won the Silver Prize of the Japan Jazz Disc Award.

In 2010, Hino was appointed Visiting Professor at Shobi University.

In 2013, he formed a unit named Terumasa Hino h factor with dj honda and his second son, Kenji “Jino” Hino.  Besides touring, the unit released an album entitled Unity – h factor -.

In recent years, he brings his passion into charity and fostering young musicians, while making another great career in art, holding exhibitions and publishing books of drawings.  He is Japan’s leading artist with a global career, with a one-of-a-kind creativity and a sublime artistry under his belt.
