Virtuoso Spanish guitarist and composer Pipo Romero is one of the most distinctive voices in today’s contemporary acoustic music landscape. Over the course of four critically acclaimed albums — Folklórico (2017), Ideario (2018), Ikigai (2022), and Alborada (2025) — he has developed an original musical language that reimagines Iberian flamenco and Atlantic folk traditions through a refined and contemporary compositional approach.
Raised in Cádiz — a historic port shaped by centuries of cultural exchange — Romero’s work is rooted in Spanish folklore while remaining open to Mediterranean and transatlantic influences. His music does not replicate tradition; it reshapes it into a personal instrumental voice that bridges heritage and modernity.
His innovative approach to the steel-string guitar fuses flamenco, banjo, and classical techniques, resulting in a rich, dynamic sound that bridges tradition and modernity. His virtuosic technique serves the composition rather than overshadowing it, allowing space, silence, and narrative flow to define the concert experience.
His albums have received international recognition, including a Top 10 position on the World Music Charts Europe and charting on the Transglobal World Music Chart. He has performed at major venues and festivals across Europe, North America, and Asia, including Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center (USA), Palais Montcalm (Canada), Budapest Jazz Festival (Hungary), Festival de Guitarras de Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), and World Music Festival@Taiwan.
He presented Alborada at WOMEX 2025 in Tampere, marking an important milestone in his current artistic phase.
His work for the Netflix series Berlín (prequel to La Casa de Papel) earned a nomination at the Spanish Academy of Music Awards, highlighting his ability to create evocative and emotionally resonant music beyond the concert stage.

Carlos Sanchez
Bass

Bassist, producer and luthier from Cartagena, Spain, now based in Stavanger, Norway. Self-taught and playing since the age of twelve, he learned the language of flamenco bass directly from Carles Benavent, the musician who defined the instrument's role in the tradition. As a session player he has moved fluidly across Afro-jazz, Afro-Brazilian music and fusion, performing on stages throughout Europe and the Americas. His playing brings harmonic depth and rhythmic grounding to Pipo Romero's compositions while leaving the guitar's melodic voice at the centre.
