Jacob Collier

Jacob Collier is a two-time GRAMMY award-winning singer, composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist, based in London, England. Dubbed by many as one of the most innovative creative musicians of his generation, Jacob first rose to popularity through the virality of his homemade multi-track YouTube videos. In these, Jacob re-creates well-known songs, layering multiple voices and instruments on top of one another, and visualizes these with a multi-Jacob mosaic split-screen layout. Collier's musical style fuses elements of jazz, a cappella, groove, folk, electronic music, classical music, gospel, soul and improvisation, and often features extreme use of re-harmonization. Since his inaugural video in 2011, Jacob’s online social channels have garnered over 300K international followers and more than 13 million YouTube views. His viral hits, such as his rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing”, also made him popular among the Jazz community. Some legendary fans include Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, and Take 6, to name a few.

Jacob’s debut album, In My Room, which was recorded, composed and produced entirely by Jacob at his home in London, was released in July 2016. The album topped 23 international iTunes Jazz charts, and won him two GRAMMYs. The album was also well-received critically. NPR premiered it on their First Look program, saying, “Jacob’s warmly humanistic debut In My Room securely positions him as this year’s wunderkind-to-watch.” Billboard simply stated, “Jacob Collier is Blowing Minds.”

In collaboration with Ben Bloomberg of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Jacob has designed and built a revolutionary one-man live performance vehicle that brings his multi-instrumental, multi-visual format to the stage. It first debuted at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2015, where Jacob opened for jazz giants Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. After witnessing the pre-debut run at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, The Guardian heralded Collier as “Jazz’s New Messiah.” Jazzwise magazine dubbed him “The Future of Music.” Jacob was invited to perform and speak at the 2017 TED Talk conference in Vancouver, to give further insight on the inner workings of his unique production.

Today, Jacob is touring the world with the One-Man-Show, arranging commissioned work for orchestras and bands, teaching Masterclasses, working on creating emotional musical technology, and collaborating internationally with musicians of all shapes and sizes. In 2015, Jacob was involved in Beats by Dre’s Rugby World Cup “The Game Starts Here” campaign, for which he arranged and recorded “Jerusalem” as the soundtrack for the commercial. In 2017, Jacob was asked to reinvent Samsung’s “Over the Horizon” theme for the release of the new Samsung Galaxy 8/8S. Most recently, Jacob recorded some music for the score of DreamWorks’ latest animated film, “Boss Baby”, with legendary film composer Hans Zimmer. At Coachella 2017, Jacob performed “Freedom” with Hans Zimmer and Pharrell. He looks forward to meeting you, someday.
