The Harridans

The Harridans are a five pieces Art-Rock band who have been gigging in and around Beijing for the last three years. They released their debut album 'Fuzzing the Muse' last year and are currently working on a follow up to it. The band's sound has developed over the years to encompass a variety of different styles from British folk to 70's pop, to prog rock, all brought together with an air of English melancholy

What is Spittoon:

Spittoon Collective

The Spittoon collective as a whole organizes a large variety of different events and activities ranging from poetry and fiction reading nights, to workshops and a music-poetry collaboration called Spit-Tunes. It is a platform that supports and sustains literary and artistic collaborations between the Chinese and foreign community in Beijing.

Spittoon Literary Magazine

The Spittoon Literary Magazine and Spit-Tunes are a product of the Spittoon collective. The Spittoon Literary Magazine, founded in June 2016, is a biannual publication of English and Chinese writing that aims to facilitate dialogue between contemporary Chinese and English-language writing. Our audience consists of Western and Chinese readers, each interested in the other’s and their own literature. By publishing Chinese literature with its English translation, and English-language literature engaging with China, we hope to confront our readers with new questions and perspectives about other cultures as well as their own. Now in its second issue, Spittoon has already attracted some of the leading lights of contemporary Chinese poetry and has received recognition by foreign media in China as one of the top-five literary magazines in Asia.

What is Spit-Tunes?

Spit-Tunes takes advantage of Beijing's diverse and talented music scene by selecting artists and bands from different genres and pairing them together to collaborate with writers and poets. The musicians select the poets and writers they want to work with after a selection process - The musicians choose the poets or writers based on how suitable they think they are for their certain styles of music. After the partnerships are made, the musicians and writers work together for a month to make a special collaboration song based on the musicians and writer's individual style.
